AVALOSE PODI



It is almost a month since I posted anything here. I had been to India for three weeks and even after coming back dint feel likecooking anything special. Finally yesterday while making "puttu podi"I thought of making some avalose podi as well.

When I was small Amma used to make puttu podi on large scale every month. Along with that avalose podi was also made Once in a while it was used for making avalose unda which we had nicknamed as "bomb"But mostly the podi was served with sugar and banana as a tea time snack.

INGREDIENTS

1. Raw rice - 2 cups
2. Grated coconut - 1 cup
3. Salt - 1/2 tea spoon
4. Coconut oil - 1/2 tea spoon
5. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tea spoon

METHOD

1. Wash and soak rice in water for 3-4 hours. Spread on a towel and drain well.

2. Grind to a coarse powder in a mixie (like puttu podi). Mix well with salt and coconut.

3. Heat oil in a big pan and fry cumin seeds.

4. Add the rice flour- coconut mix and srir fry till it is crisp and light brown in colour.

5. If too many lumps are there grind them seperately and mix with the powder.
